I heard yet another song entitled 'Lucy' yesterday evening on the Spotify generated playlist called "Indie Rock Road Trip", which for some reason was my evening hike playlist.
Which got me thinking.
There were at least two other 'Lucy' songs I had liked over the years, and as once again, there is really no new releases right to recommend, here are the Lucy's:
Original Post Date: 10 April 2023 (on an old now defuct blog)
Lucy by Louis Dunford (who is from North London).
A single released 6 April 2023.
(Blog blurb at the time)
'One for the lyrics, and the music. Sort of a male coming of age song, with the words, and especially the scenario, that reminds me of the great "Lola", way back in 1970 by The Kinks.'
Post Date: 12 June 2023
(again the orginal song blurb, where this time I reference the Dunford 'Lucy').
"Franjapan, from Melbourne, Australia released their EP "Learning Futures", from at the beginning of June, with 'Lucy' being the choice.
Funny, as it's the second song selected this year with "Lucy" as the title, with the song by the British artist, Louis Dunford, featured in April this year.
Whatever, must be a run on Lucy's about. Like this one too: cool guitar work, with a tight bass and drum section. Also, love the chopping background guitar through the whole song.
A song description from the singer, Ryns White, given to the The Au Review.com, goes: “The song was written about a night I had at a party,” explains singer Rhys White. “It’s simply an observation of the activities or values that are ever-present in the youthful nightlife. I believe the essence of the song is an attempt to capture the lustful innocence of our youth before its impending end. A snapshot of a moment in time - this one on repeat play."
So finally to today's 'Lucy'.
Lucy by Mt. Joy, released as a single on May 9, 2025
You got to bear with this one, and let it build so it will grow on you as it progresses.
These guys are an American indie rock band with roots in Philadelphia and currently based in Los Angeles.

(End blurb):
Amazingly a casual search on Spotify throws up any number of 'Lucy' songs, so who knows why this girl's name has inspired that many musicians?
Time to meet a Lucy?
